Day Trip to Hallstatt & Salzburg

What to expect

Two of Austria's best-known places in one long day. The drive goes first to Hallstatt, where you have about two hours for the lakeside village, the market square and, if you like, the Skywalk above the salt mine. On the way west your driver stops at Wolfgangsee for photos over the lake. Salzburg follows with about two and a half hours for the old town, Mozart's birthplace and the fortress above it, before the drive back to Vienna. The day starts early and is full — in return you see both places without changing trains or joining a group.
